When You Feel Like You’re Not Doing Enough

Feeling restless in your mind because there is more to do?  Feeling restless because no matter what you do, it never seems to be enough?  Ever catch yourself thinking ” I am not doing enough”?

You are not alone!

I hear it every day from people that I work with.  Often there is a sense of guilt.

Guilt because you should be doing more to get your body in tip top shape.

Guilt that you “should” be doing more to build your business ( that demon has haunted many a businessman).

Guilt because you don’t feel you have done enough for your friends and family, or because you weren’t there for someone close in a time of challenge.

When we feel guilt, shame, or any of those emotions, that is how we are choosing to be and they are affecting every action that we take from that space.  It is a choice as to whether we feel guilty about it or not.  Loving ourselves even with that shame or guilt, is key to accepting and releasing it.  Maybe we did not do as much as we could have, but holding onto the guilt of it, is not serving anyone, and stops us from feeling like we are doing enough in the future.

One of the best tools of exploring consciousness is meditation.  It expands our awareness vastly.  We get to hear that still quiet voice of wisdom in our head that is pushed out by the craziness of our society. Yet, so many people don’t make the time for it because there are so many things to “DO”.

If you feel guilt about not doing enough to make a difference you are not in vibrational harmony with doing enough, and you never will be.  This guilt will cause you to grasp at actions to take, often out of desperation, rather than need or inspiration.   Fruitless actions because of the underlying feeling of not doing enough.

When you release the guilt, shame or whatever emotion you have attached to it, you will find that inspiration comes. You will not be taking action because you should, but because it is obvious that it is the thing to do!  Sometimes what needs to be done is prep work.  Sometimes it is action outside in the outer world.  It will become very apparent to you by how you feel.

“A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven”

- the Byrds, “Turn Turn Turn”

At different points in our life there is different actions to take.  Some times it is introspection, sometimes it is meeting people, sometimes it outward action.

Stay focused on your “doing”.   Many people find it easy to get focused on what others are doing and feel that they are not doing enough, or accuse the other of not doing enough.  Who are we to say what another needs to do at this time?  That is for them to do.

Now, sometimes the fear can stop us.  We know what we need to do but fear stops us.  When we actually take the action steps then we can put this fear aside.  Quite often, the fear that stops us, is that we don’t feel that we will be good enough.  So we end up not doing enough, because we are afraid that we won’t be good enough, and the cycle perpetuates!

This is why, when our body tells us what action to take, we can take it.  And sometimes, that action is to go find a quiet place and meditate.

As a personal trainer I have witnessed people have been doing more than enough, but cannot lose the extra pounds they want to lose, or achieve the goal they want to achieve.  It is not that they are not doing enough, there is a disconnect at the level of being. Be, Do Have.  Build your world from the inside out, not the other way around, and you will experience a whole new level of joy.

Repeat this affirmation still some more.

“I am good enough, I am doing enough, I have enough”

When it comes to move towards that goal you want to achieve, how about stating something like the following.

I know that in order to achieve my calling, that I have the potential within me to achieve it, and by feeling, thinking and knowing,  that I am good enough, that I will attract all the people and events into my life so that I can learn what I need to learn.  I release the need to be perfect and am kind on myself when I make mistakes.  I will listen to the wisdom of the still quiet voice in meditation that guides me to what I need to do, and do it with courage, knowing that I am supported by God/Spirit/Universe/Higher Power.  I know that because this desire has been birthed that I will attract to me everything that I need to have in order to bring this about.  I choose to relax, be grateful and allow for the synchronicities of life to line me up with all that I need to be, do and have.”

Each week I work with people who are struggling with weight and believing that they are not doing enough. My work is about bringing people back to the place of recognising the sacredness of their bodies through physical, mental, emotional and spiritual exercises and recognising that you are enough.  Sign up for a free introductory phone coaching session with me ( make sure you leave your name and number in the box below ) and we will address your concerns and help you achieve sacred fitness.  www.MatthewAshdown.com.

lol a handful of of the observations readers submit crack me up, time and again i wonder if they even read the post and reports before writing or if perhaps they simply just read the title of the post and generate the very first thought that pops into their heads. in either case, it is good to look over smart commentary from time to time instead of the exact same, traditional blog vomit which i more often than not notice on the net i¡¯m going to play a smattering of rounds of facebook poker adios
